University-Level Teaching

Duke Data Consulting (2019 - 2020)

I worked with researchers and students across several departments at Duke's Data Visualization Services. I advised several undergraduates with their thesis topics, dataset choices, and econometric or machine learning analysis. I also debugged programming problems in R, Stata, and Python for students or other researchers. The Duke Data services program is linked here

Michigan State University Teaching Assistant

As an undergrad, for three semesters I was a TA for this class. During that time, I created an advanced curriculum for Honors sections, incorporating Natural Language Processing tools, SQL databases, and a wide range of advanced computer science topics. I taught lab, held help sessions, read and tested students’ code, and mentored over 60 students. I received high ratings from students, averaging a 3.7 out of 4.0, and 80% of my students rated my enthusiasm and preparation as the highest of 5 ratings. I helped mentor several students with technical software engineering interviews, helping launch their careers at top tech firms.

Community Service

South Norwalk Girls Who Code

From 2017 to 2018, I founded and ran a Girls Who Code club in South Norwalk, CT. While doing this, I taught introductory Python to a group of 20 of middle school girls on a weekly basis. I also encouraged career outlook while facilitating conversation about industry leaders and issue.

Beyond working with my local group, I was a curriculum advisor to the national nonprofit, and I connected with Michigan State University and Stamford, CT organizations to advise with their club launch. A teammate and I presented this at the PyCon Education Summit in May 2019 in Cleveland, OH.

Would love to hear from you if you're considering building a program in your local community.

ACM-W Chapter Officer

The Michigan State University ACM-W chapter, Women in Computing or "WIC" club has roughly 40-50 members total. I was President of the org from 2015 – 2016 and Treasurer from 2013 – 2015. I implemented new leadership development and confidence building programs, using Lean In activities. We also did a lot of community service activities, and won several Google and National Counsel of Women in Technology (NCWIT) grants.

I won several scholarships as an undergraduate partially due to my community service: The MSU College of Engineering Service Award, the Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT) Scholarship, the MSU Women in Computing “Extra Mile” Leadership Award, the MSU Women in Engineering Award, the Google GHC Grant, and the Anita Borg Scholarship for GHC.
